The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has attributed the strained relationship between his administration and some workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to his refusal to tolerate inefficiency and resistance to reforms.
Speaking during a media engagement in Abuja, Wike said his efforts to enforce discipline and improve service delivery had drawn opposition from individuals who were uncomfortable with the changes being introduced within the administration.
According to the minister, his administration is focused on delivering results rather than seeking popularity, insisting that difficult decisions are necessary to transform the nation’s capital and strengthen governance.
Wike maintained that while some workers may disagree with his approach, the reforms are intended to enhance productivity, accountability and the overall performance of the FCT Administration. He stressed that public interest would remain the guiding principle of his policies and decisions.
The minister’s remarks come against the backdrop of previous disagreements between the FCTA and organised labour over welfare issues, unpaid entitlements and other labour-related demands that led to industrial actions earlier this year.
Wike reiterated that his administration would continue pursuing reforms aimed at improving infrastructure, service delivery and governance in the Federal Capital Territory, despite criticism from some quarters.
