The Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as remarkable achievements in the energy sector, particularly in renewable energy development, over the past three years.
Speaking in commemoration of the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration, Abdullahi said the government has recorded transformational gains through strategic investments and policy initiatives aimed at expanding access to clean, affordable and sustainable energy across the country.
According to him, one of the most notable achievements of the administration is the implementation of the Renewed Hope Solarisation Project, which has accelerated the deployment of hybrid solar power systems in federal tertiary institutions and healthcare facilities nationwide.
He noted that the Federal Government’s approval of the ₦220 billion National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening energy security, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting environmental sustainability.
The ECN boss explained that the initiative is designed to provide reliable electricity to public institutions through the deployment of solar mini-grid systems, thereby reducing energy costs, improving operational efficiency and easing pressure on the national grid.
Abdullahi further stated that the administration’s renewable energy agenda is not only addressing critical energy challenges but also laying the foundation for long-term economic growth, job creation and industrial development.
He described the progress recorded in the sector as transformational, noting that the government’s interventions are gradually reshaping Nigeria’s energy landscape and positioning the country for a more sustainable future.
Congratulating President Tinubu on his third year in office, the ECN Director-General expressed confidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda would continue to deliver impactful results in the energy sector and other key areas of national development.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting government policies and programmes geared towards achieving universal energy access and driving Nigeria’s transition to a cleaner and more resilient energy future.
