The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered more than N673 billion on behalf of the Nigerian government over the past three years, its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, has disclosed.

Olukoyede made the disclosure on Wednesday while delivering a lecture at the Cambridge International Symposium on Economic Crime in the United Kingdom.

The EFCC chairman said the recovery represented the outcome of the commission’s sustained efforts to combat economic and financial crimes and recover proceeds of illicit activities.

The disclosure highlights the scale of the commission’s asset-recovery activities under Olukoyede’s leadership and its broader efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s response to financial crimes.

Olukoyede’s lecture at the international symposium also provided an opportunity to highlight Nigeria’s experience and institutional responses in tackling economic crime, asset recovery and financial corruption.

Further details of the recoveries, including their composition and specific cases that contributed to the total, were not immediately available.
