Nigeria’s 36 state governments received about N47 trillion in Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue between July 2023 and June 2026, following the removal of petrol subsidy and the reforms that increased revenues available for distribution.
The huge inflow has now intensified calls for governors to account for how the funds were spent, particularly as many states continue to face challenges in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education and social welfare.
The revenue surge reflects the significant increase in funds shared through the Federation Account since the subsidy removal. In the first half of 2026 alone, the 36 states received N4.54tn in net FAAC revenue, up from N3.61tn during the same period in 2025.
The growing scrutiny is therefore shifting from how much states received to what Nigerians can point to as the tangible results of the money received.
