The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged Nigerian Army commanders to strengthen leadership, professionalism and operational effectiveness in the fight against insecurity across the country.
Shaibu gave the charge while addressing participants of the Army War College Course 10/2026 in Abuja, where he outlined his command philosophy and expectations for military leadership.
The COAS stressed the importance of protecting civilians and upholding human rights during military operations, noting that public trust is essential to successful security operations.
He also urged commanders to provide structured, mission-focused training for their personnel, particularly in areas involving civilian protection and respect for fundamental human rights.
Shaibu said the Nigerian Army must remain adaptable, combat-ready and resilient as it confronts evolving security threats, while maintaining professionalism and adherence to international humanitarian law and rules of engagement.
