France booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 2–0 victory over Morocco on Thursday, ending the Atlas Lions’ impressive campaign and moving one step closer to another world title.
Kylian Mbappé starred for Les Bleus, opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 28th minute before adding his second goal of the match in the 60th minute. Ousmane Dembélé sealed the victory six minutes later with a composed finish as France underlined their title credentials with a clinical display.
Morocco, carrying the hopes of Africa into the quarter-finals, battled with determination and enjoyed spells of possession but found it difficult to breach France’s well-organised defence. Despite creating a handful of promising opportunities, the Atlas Lions were unable to find the breakthrough as France’s quality in front of goal proved decisive.
The victory sends Didier Deschamps’ side into the World Cup semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the quarter-final between Spain and Belgium. Morocco, meanwhile, exit the tournament with pride after another remarkable World Cup campaign that reinforced their reputation as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
France will now shift their focus to the last four as they continue their quest for a second FIFA World Cup title in three tournaments.
