The Federal Government has announced the commencement of the special public works programme which is aimed at employing over 774,000 Nigerians.
The announcement was made by the government on Wednesday via its verified Twitter handle, after it was approved by the President, Muhammadu Buhari.
“The Special Public Works Programme of the Federal Government has kicked off nationwide,” said the Government.
“The State Selection Committees have been inaugurated and have commenced work.”
The programme which is part of the fiscal stimulus measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, will engage a total of 1,000 Nigerians from each of the 774 local government areas in the country.
The government further gave a web link where interested applicants could find names and contact details of their state’s committee.
“Find the names and contact details of members of your State’s Committee here: https://specialpublicworks.gov.ng/site/#NigeriaSPW,” it noted.
Recall the programme was suspended by the national assembly, following a face-off with Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment over the legislature’s insistence on dictating the process of the programme.
