The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced a six-hour electricity supply disruption affecting parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Niger State following scheduled maintenance work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The planned outage is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., during which electricity supply to several communities will be temporarily interrupted.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, AEDC explained that the disruption was necessary to enable TCN engineers to carry out maintenance on the 132kV Katampe-Gwarinpa Line II at the Katampe 1 Transmission Station.
The maintenance exercise is intended to improve the reliability of the transmission network and strengthen electricity supply to customers served by the affected infrastructure.
Areas Affected in Abuja
According to AEDC, the affected communities in the Federal Capital Territory include parts of:
– Kubwa
– FO1
– Gbazango
– Byazin and Byazin Across
– Dutse Alhaji
– Dutse Makaranta
– Ushafa
– Bwari and surrounding communities
The company noted that residents and businesses in these locations should expect temporary interruptions to electricity supply during the maintenance period.
Communities Affected in Niger State
In Niger State, the outage is expected to affect parts of the following areas:
– Suleja
– Kaduna Road
– Sabon Wuse
– Dikko
– Madalla
– Zuba
– Dakwa
– Tungan Maje and neighbouring communities
The disruption could affect households, commercial establishments and other electricity-dependent activities across the affected communities.
Reason for the Outage
The maintenance will be undertaken by TCN on the bay switchgears and associated equipment connected to the Katampe-Gwarinpa 132kV transmission line.
The exercise forms part of efforts to maintain transmission infrastructure and improve the reliability of electricity delivery to distribution companies and their customers.
During the maintenance period, AEDC will be unable to receive electricity through the affected transmission infrastructure for onward distribution to customers in the listed areas.
AEDC Appeals for Understanding
AEDC apologised to customers for the inconvenience the planned interruption might cause and advised affected residents and businesses to make appropriate arrangements ahead of the exercise.
The company also provided its customer service line, 08039070070, for enquiries and further information.
Electricity supply is expected to resume after the scheduled maintenance is completed, subject to the operational readiness of the affected infrastructure.
