A member of the House of Representatives, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, popularly known as Bichi, has said Northern political leaders should reciprocate President Bola Tinubu’s support for the late President Muhammadu Buhari by backing his re-election bid in 2027.
The lawmaker, who represents Bichi Federal Constituency in Kano State, said Buhari would not have emerged president in 2015 without Tinubu’s political support and strategic intervention.
Bichi made the remarks on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting and the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council for Bichi Federal Constituency in Kano State.
“Tinubu made the late President Muhammadu Buhari after several unsuccessful attempts to become President. It is now time for us to compensate Tinubu for what he did for the North,” he said.
The lawmaker also dismissed allegations that Tinubu’s administration was pursuing policies deliberately targeted against Northern Nigeria, describing such claims as insincere and politically motivated.
He argued that the President’s approval of major infrastructure projects and other development initiatives in Kano State demonstrated his commitment to the region.
According to Bichi, several projects being executed in the state would not have been possible without the President’s support and intervention.
He maintained that the North should reciprocate Tinubu’s political support for Buhari by mobilising votes for the incumbent President in the 2027 general election.
The lawmaker disclosed that political stakeholders in Kano North Senatorial District were targeting at least one million votes for Tinubu in the forthcoming presidential election.
He said the mobilisation drive would extend beyond Bichi constituency and Kano North to cover all 44 local government areas of Kano State.
Bichi noted that Kano North had approximately 1.3 million registered voters, expressing confidence that the APC could secure at least one million votes for Tinubu from the district.
At the meeting, Kano State Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, who represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, urged members of the campaign council to work towards securing victory for APC candidates across the state.
Garo also cautioned party members against actions capable of threatening peace and stability in Kano North, urging them to adopt issue-based campaigns to persuade voters.
Similarly, the Director-General of the APC Presidential and Governorship Campaign Council in Kano, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, called on the campaign team to mobilise grassroots supporters and youth groups to strengthen the party’s electoral prospects.
Gwarzo expressed optimism about the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections, urging supporters to shun violence and other actions that could disrupt peace in the state.
The party’s mobilisation efforts form part of its broader strategy to consolidate support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.
