The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed Governor Hope Uzodimma as its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, despite a Federal High Court judgment recognising former Governor Rochas Okorocha as the party’s rightful candidate.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya Jones, the party maintained that Uzodimma legitimately emerged victorious in its senatorial primary and remained its preferred candidate.
The declaration followed a ruling by Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Okorocha as the APC candidate and restraining Uzodimma from presenting himself as the party’s flagbearer.
The APC, however, disclosed that its legal team would review the judgment and determine the appropriate course of action.
The controversy stems from the party’s May 18, 2026, senatorial primary, which initially produced Uzodimma as the declared winner before Okorocha challenged the outcome in court.
The latest development has intensified the battle for the Imo West senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
