The Ministry of Defence has received the highest allocation from the 28.7 trillion naira 2024 Appropriation Bill passed by the Senate on Saturday.

According to the details of the Bill made available to Economic Confidential, the Ministry of Police Affairs came second with N869.121bn allocation.

The Senators’ decision to prioritise Defence and Police Affairs Ministries may not be unconnected to the security challenges the country is facing.

While the present administration is yet to fully surmount the Boko Haram menace and banditry it inherited, there have been renewed cases of kidnapping and mass murder in Kaduna, Plateau, Zamfara, Taraba and other parts of the country.

Following in third position is the Ministry of Education with N857.134bn allocation.

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare also got N667.577bn.

The Ministry of Interior had N362.552bn allocation.

The Ministry of Youths had N201.467bn allocation.

The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) got N199.763bn allocation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was allocated N140.456bn.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security got N110.248bn allocation.

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation was allocated N100.248bn.

The Presidency also got N97.913bn allocation.

The National Assembly had increased the Budget by N1.2trn from the N27.5trn proposed by the President.

Economic Confidential reports that the Appropriation Bill does not become a law yet until President Tinubu signs the document.

According to Villa sources, the President will sign the Bill into Law in the coming days.
