VeryDarkMan Threatens Legal Action Against MTN Over Dangote IPO Advert, Questions Offer

Controversial social media activist and influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has threatened legal action against telecommunications giant MTN over the alleged use of his National Identification Number linked phone number in advertisements promoting the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering without his consent.

VeryDarkMan, in a statement, questioned the rationale behind the ₦5,000 minimum investment associated with the Dangote Refinery share offer, describing the initiative as one that could ultimately benefit wealthy Nigerians at the expense of poorer investors.

He argued that the relatively small entry amount could make investors less concerned if they eventually failed to realise significant returns from the investment.

The activist also questioned why Aliko Dangote would offer refinery shares to Nigerians rather than focus on reducing the prices of essential commodities and products produced by his companies.

“If Dangote really cares about Nigerians, he should reduce the prices of cement, fuel, rice, and sugar instead of selling refinery shares for ₦5,000,” he said.

He further alleged that MTN had used his NIN-linked telephone number to send or facilitate advertisements relating to the Dangote IPO without obtaining his permission.

Addressing the telecommunications company, VeryDarkMan said he expected an explanation and warned that failure to provide one could result in legal proceedings.

“My lawyers will write to you. Why was my NIN-linked number used for Dangote IPO ads without my consent? I need an explanation, or we’ll meet in court,” he stated.

His comments come amid heightened public interest in the Dangote Refinery share offering, with prospective investors weighing the potential returns and risks associated with the investment.
