Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have rejected any political alliance with individuals or opposition groups that could undermine the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The position was disclosed on Monday night by the Chairman of the APC Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, after a meeting of the governors in Abuja.
Uzodimma said the governors had not entered into any formal agreement with any individual or political group ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that their political commitment remained firmly aligned with the APC and its candidates.
The declaration comes amid growing attention around the Rainbow Coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Peoples Democratic Party leader, Nyesom Wike.
Wike has been promoting the coalition in Rivers State as part of efforts to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election. However, his political activities have reportedly generated tensions with some APC governors, including Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Addressing the governors’ position, Uzodimma said the APC Governors Forum would not support any political arrangement capable of creating divided loyalties or weakening the party’s electoral structure.
He said the governors were committed to supporting candidates officially fielded by the APC at all levels of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the forum would neither participate in nor endorse any arrangement that could undermine President Tinubu’s re-election bid, weaken the APC or adversely affect the party’s candidates.
“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates,” Uzodimma stated, adding that the party’s campaign structure would operate in line with the expectations of the President and the strategic objectives of the APC.
The development effectively draws a line between the APC Governors Forum and any parallel political coalition operating outside the party’s official campaign structure as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
