The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested 70 suspects following a viral video alleging a robbery incident around Unity Fountain in the Maitama area of Abuja.
The disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered an immediate and comprehensive raid of identified criminal flashpoints around Unity Fountain and its environs following the circulation of the video.
Acting on the directive, operatives of the Maitama Police Division conducted coordinated raids across the identified blackspots, leading to the arrest of 70 suspects.
The command said 30 of the suspects were released after preliminary screening and due process, while 40 others were retained in custody for further investigation.
During the investigation, the alleged victim positively identified two of the suspects as persons he recognised from the incident. The two suspects, alongside others retained in custody, are currently being investigated as the police work to identify and apprehend any other persons who may have been connected to the alleged offence.
