The United States is reportedly preparing a $2.8 billion arms package for Israel, including 40,000 2,000-pound bombs, according to US media reports.
The proposed deal, which has been informally shared with relevant congressional committees, comprises 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, in what could become one of the largest munitions packages supplied to Israel in recent years.
The planned transfer comes amid continuing tensions in the Middle East and renewed scrutiny of US military support for Israel. Similar heavy bomb shipments were previously withheld by the Biden administration over concerns about their potential use in densely populated areas.
According to Reuters, the proposed package has yet to receive public comment from the US State Department or the Israeli embassy.
