Some Nigerians have gone to social media to criticise the Nigerian police force for planning to investigate popular skit maker Abdulgafar Abiola, also known as Cute Abiola, for what the force deemed a ‘offensive’ portrayal of their image.
According to CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the force’s portrayal by the comedian is provocative, highly disrespectful, and disparaging, and he will be investigated.
The proposal to investigate the creator of the comedy, on the other hand, did not sit well with some netizens, who believe that the Force lacks the moral reason to reject the comedian’s representation of them.
Reacting to the development on Twitter, a user, @therealseylom wrote, “See who dey talk about Integrity.” Another user, @MyrorMiller tweeted, “Una no fit condemn the act because nah so una be, nah to use this excuse to get the guy for using his art to expose una for wetin una be.”
“He gave an apt representation of what your men do on the roads. You guys should talk to your men to stop asking for bribes, there is a reason why American and British Policemen are well-respected, they have self-respect. Respect is EARNED.” @Olanrewaju_sd opined.
