Troops of the Nigerian Army operating under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have recorded significant operational successes with the arrest of suspected criminals and recovery of arms during separate operations in Kaduna and Abia states.
The operations, conducted as part of ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on criminal elements and strengthen internal security across the country, led to the arrest of suspected bandits and the seizure of incriminating items.
In the North West theatre, troops of 2 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base Dogon Dawa intercepted a suspected bandit during a snap roadblock operation at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on May 8, 2026.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Adamu, 32, was arrested while riding a motorcycle. Recovered from him were one AK-47 magazine, three mobile phones, Indian hemp and other items.
Military sources disclosed that preliminary exploitation of the suspect’s mobile phone revealed incriminating photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military camouflage and armed with a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.
The suspect and the recovered items are currently in military custody for further investigation.
Similarly, troops of 14 Brigade under Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA responded swiftly to a distress call on May 9, 2026 regarding suspected illegal possession of a firearm at Umuoriehe village in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops mobilised to the area and apprehended one Ifeanyi Ezebuiro, 22, with a foreign-made Ruger pistol.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspect reportedly claimed that the firearm belonged to his late father. He remains in custody alongside the recovered weapon pending further investigation.
The Nigerian Army said the operations underscore its determination to deny criminal elements freedom of action and ensure the safety of law-abiding citizens across the country.
The Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against all forms of insecurity in line with its constitutional mandate of protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maintaining national peace.
