Kano Extends Lockdown By Seven Days

Kano State government has announced the extension of the total lockdown imposed on the state by another one week in a bid to further contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the state Comissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, the decision after due consultations with the federal government and key stakeholders in the health sector.

The measure is aimed at further reducing indiscriminate person to person contacts which is considered as one of the major ways the disease is being spread.

While acknowledging the impact of the decision on residents in the state, the information commissioner called for patience and support as the battle against the pandemic continues and urged them to continue to observe strict personal hygiene through regular hand washing, use of face masks and social distancing.

According to records released by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on Monday night, 64 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Kano while the country now has a total of 4641 infections, with 150 deaths and 902 discharged patients.
