The Department of State Services (DSS), in collaboration with forest guards in Borno State, has intercepted a large consignment of medical supplies allegedly destined for fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), in what security sources described as a major disruption of the group’s logistics network.
The seizure was made on Friday during a coordinated operation in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, following actionable intelligence on suspected insurgent supply routes operating through forested corridors in the region.
Security sources disclosed that the intercepted items included significant quantities of pain-relief medications, anti-malaria injections, antibiotics and other pharmaceutical products, as well as essential consumables believed to be intended for battlefield support and resupply operations.
According to the sources, preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was linked to efforts to replenish ISWAP fighters who reportedly sustained casualties and suffered logistical setbacks during recent intelligence-driven counter-terrorism operations conducted by Nigerian security forces in collaboration with international partners, including the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).
While operational details remain restricted for security reasons, officials described the interception as part of an intensified campaign to dismantle insurgent logistics and support networks that facilitate the movement of medical supplies, equipment and other materials to terrorist enclaves across the North-East.
Investigators believe the supplies were being transported covertly in small batches through remote forest routes in an attempt to evade security patrols and surveillance operations.
The recovered materials have been taken into custody for forensic analysis and further investigation. Security agencies have also launched efforts to identify and apprehend individuals involved in the procurement, transportation and intended delivery of the supplies.
The interception underscores ongoing efforts by security and intelligence agencies to deny terrorist groups access to critical resources and disrupt the supply chains that sustain their operations across the region
