An All Progressives Congress chieftain in Ondo State, Omoyele Olabode, has praised the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for providing financial assistance to victims of the recent flood disaster in Ondo South Senatorial District.
The flooding affected several communities across the six local government areas in the senatorial district, displacing residents and leaving many households struggling to recover.
Under his Flood Relief Palliative Sponsored initiative, Tunji-Ojo provided cash assistance to more than 1,000 affected residents, with the intervention aimed at cushioning the economic impact of the disaster on vulnerable households.
The disbursement was coordinated by former House of Representatives member Kolade Akinjo, who said the initiative was designed to provide direct financial support to families affected by the floods.
Olabode, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the cash transfers had brought relief to victims and their families across the affected communities.
He described the intervention as a timely response to the difficulties faced by residents, saying the minister had acted directly to address the immediate needs of flood victims.
According to Olabode, the gesture reflected President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Tunji-Ojo’s commitment to grassroots welfare across Ondo State.
He urged other political leaders and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the initiative by supporting residents affected by the disaster while authorities work on longer-term solutions to flooding and drainage challenges in the area.
Olabode also noted that the victims were still expecting further assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, following promises of additional palliatives.
He, however, said the financial support provided by Tunji-Ojo had arrived at a critical time and would help affected families cope with the aftermath of the flooding.
The APC chieftain maintained that direct interventions of this nature could strengthen the connection between government and communities facing hardship.
