Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate and Delta Central senatorial candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has raised the alarm over what he described as โdisturbing and increasingly credible threatsโ to his life and members of his family.
Omo-Agege, in a statement issued as he commenced his campaign activities in Uvwie Local Government Area, said the alleged threats were emanating from the Delta State Government House in Asaba.
He called on the Nigerian public, international community, civil society organisations, the media and security agencies to take formal notice of the alleged threats.
The senator further stated that should anything untoward happen to him or any member of his family, the people of Nigeria, particularly the Urhobo people of Delta Central Senatorial District, should hold Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, responsible and accountable.
Omo-Agege is seeking to return to the political frontline as he campaigns across the eight local government areas in Delta Central. He urged security agencies and other relevant authorities to pay close attention to his allegations and ensure the safety of himself and his family throughout the campaign period.
Governor Oborevwori has not, in the statement, been shown to have responded to the allegation.
The senator served as Deputy President of the Ninth Senate and is currently the Delta Central senatorial candidate under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
