The Nigeria Police Force has filed serious charges against ten individuals allegedly involved in the recent #EndHunger protests, accusing them of conspiring to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
The charge sheet outlines accusations of treason, levying war against the state, and inciting mutiny.
The defendants face charges related to attempts to destabilize Nigeria, attacking and injuring police officers, burning public buildings, and advocating for a military takeover.
The individuals, aged between 21 and 51, were apprehended in different locations across the country during the protests held from August 1 to 10, 2024.
They are alleged to have chanted slogans such as “Tinubu Must Go” and “Soja Muskeso” (meaning “Tinubu must go, we want military rule”).
The charges follow a recent Federal High Court order in Abuja to freeze bank accounts linked to the defendants while investigations and prosecutions are ongoing.
As of now, the defendants’ legal representatives have yet to issue a response to the charges
