Team Nigeria, a group of established Nigerian delegates at the 10th World Urban Forum met Nigerian Ambassador to United Arab Emirates, Dr. Mohammed Dansanta Rimi to discuss certain issues affecting Nigerian youths.

The group had an interface with Dr. Rimi on Tuesday at the Nigerian Embassy, Abu Dhabi, to discuss ways through which the embassy can assist in promoting youth engagements, and how it can also contribute its quota in addressing issues bordering on the high level of unemployment among the Nigerian youths.

The meeting came on the heels of a special invitation extended to the leaders of the group by the authority of the Nigerian embassy in United Arab Emirate.

The group had in its entourage, honorable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development of Edo State, Dr. Erimona Edorodion Oye, minority leader of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Hon. Uwadia Daniel, Comr. Uwagboe Osawemwenhio, founder  Prince Uwagboe Youth and Students foundation, Permanent Secretary, Edo State   Ministry of Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Chris Abode, Mrs. Abode, Rev. Benjamin Okoedion, senior pastor, Regint Ministries, Mr. Oghosa Enobakhare, SSA to the Edo State Governor on Conditional Cash Transfer.

Other members of the delegation include, Mr. Osahon Osaghae, CEO H20 Enterprise, Hon. Chioma Ifemenam, Country Representative, Commonwealth Youth, Hon. Cynthia Ogbang, member, Nigerian Youth Parliament, Princess Stephanie Osagie, and Mr. Stephen Aluyaovih, a professional Software developer.

Ambassador Mohammed Rimi while addressing the delegation, expressed satisfaction over the visit, noting that the National Youth Parliament was established by late Nigerian President, Umar Musa Yar’adua, who coincidentally happened to be a childhood friend.

He also added that he was pleased that the youths are having initiatives to work and battle unemployment, especially among themselves. “Even in the UAE, people migrating in, need skills to work, so it’s essential,” he said.

He, however, expressed displeasure over a painful scenario where some greedy Nigerians selfishly set up programmes just to get funds for their individual pockets.

The youth leaders were however tipped to follow guidelines, and ensure sustainability through proper coordination for programmes as such standard would attract support from countries like the UAE that has interest in doing business with Nigeria.

The 10th World Urban Forum is a premier international conference on urban issues convened by UN-Habitat in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
