The Nigerian Senate has approved a ₦50 million donation to the families of teachers and soldiers who lost their lives during a rescue operation in Oyo State.
The donation followed a resolution by lawmakers to honour the victims, who died while carrying out efforts to rescue kidnapped persons. Senators described their sacrifice as a demonstration of courage and patriotism, urging the government to continue supporting the families left behind.
Lawmakers also called for improved security measures to better protect security personnel and civilians involved in rescue operations across the country. They stressed the need for enhanced intelligence gathering and stronger collaboration among security agencies to tackle rising insecurity.
The Senate expressed condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of security operatives and other public servants who risk their lives in the line of duty.
