Over 1.1m Students Pass 2025 NECO SSCE with Five Credit
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results, with 84.26 per cent of candidates obtaining at least five credits.
Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Wednesday at the Council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State. He said out of 1,367,210 candidates who registered, 1,358,339 sat for the exams, and 1,144,496 of them achieved five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.
He added that 818,492 candidates — representing 60.26 per cent — secured five credits including English and Mathematics.
Wushishi described the outcome as a reflection of NECO’s transparency and commitment to credible assessment. He further revealed that 1,622 candidates with special needs also participated, including those with hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism, and low vision.
On malpractice, the registrar announced a 61.58 per cent reduction, with 3,878 cases recorded compared to 10,094 in 2024. He said 38 schools in 13 states would be sanctioned for mass cheating, while nine supervisors in Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun would be blacklisted.
He disclosed that results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were withheld due to communal clashes during the exams.
The registrar thanked President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their support of NECO’s reforms and urged tertiary institutions to wait for all examination bodies to release results before finalising admissions.
