Five worshippers were killed and three others injured after suspected terrorists attacked a mosque in Dadin Kowa community, Maiyama Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Bashir Usman, the attack occurred around 8:30 p.m. during a nighttime Qur’anic Tafsir session that coincided with Taraweeh prayers.

“The attackers stormed the mosque and opened fire on the congregation. Five worshippers lost their lives, while three others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility,” the statement said, noting that the assault appeared to be a reprisal by suspected terrorists.

Usman added that police officers, in collaboration with other security agencies, have been deployed to the area to restore order and commence investigations into the attack.

He assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the perpetrators, urging the public to remain calm and provide any information that could assist security operations.

The police command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kebbi State, especially in rural communities vulnerable to banditry and terrorist attacks in the North-West region.
