Fourteen members of the House of Representatives including the House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda have formally announced their defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties and joined new Parties.
In their respective letters of resignation, the members cited internal crises, ideological differences and political considerations ahead of future elections as their reasons for defecting and moving to other parties.
Their defections were announced during plenary through separate letters read by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen at the Plenary on Tuesday.
The defected members informed that, their decisions were influenced by unresolved disputes within their former parties, differences in political ideology and the need to safeguard their political futures following the conclusion of party primaries conducted by various political parties.
Seven members of the House from Oyo State: Hon.Ojo Sunday Makinjuola, Hon. Anthony Adekpoju, Hon. Adedeji Oladeji, Hon. Najim Oyedeji, Hon. Folagimi Oyekunle and Hon. Abbas Adegun, left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Hon. Auwalu Abdu Gwalabe, from Bauchi State, also left the PDP and joined the APM.
On the other hand, the Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Kingsley Chinda also left the PDP to APC, Hon. Alex Egbonna of Cross River State moved from the APC to the PDP, Hon. Jonathan Gaza of Nasarawa State left the SDP to the LP and while Hon. Isosa Iyawe of Edo State, defected from the APC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Hon. Shehu Dalhatu from Katsina State, moved from the APC to the PDP, and Hon. Itanabene Benedict from Delta State, left the Labour Party for the PDP.
The Speaker also announced the defection of Sani Lawal from Katsina State, who resigned his membership of the APC. However, his new political party was not disclosed.
