Harris Knocks Trump Over Iran Strikes, Warns of War Escalation
Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris has criticised President Donald Trump over the administration’s latest military action in Iran, describing the move as a “perilous and avoidable confrontation”.
In a statement released on Saturday and circulated on the social media platform X, Harris accused the White House of steering the country toward a conflict that lacks broad public backing.
She said that the strikes signal a shift toward what she described as a “regime-change war,” warning that American service members are being exposed to unnecessary danger.
According to Harris, the president’s decision runs counter to his campaign assurances that he would prioritise ending overseas conflicts rather than initiating new ones.
She said the unfolding situation amounts to “recklessness presented as resolve,” contending that the administration’s posture undermines its earlier non-interventionist messaging.
Beyond political disagreement, Harris questioned the constitutional basis for the action, stressing that military engagement requires approval from Congress.
Harris said the lawmakers have to assert their oversight authority to prevent further escalation, adding that even formal authorisation would not make the operation strategically sound.
The former Vice President also highlighted the potential human toll, noting that any expansion of hostilities could place American troops at greater risk.
She maintained that decisions involving war demand discipline and measured leadership at the highest level.
The White House had not issued a response to Harris’s remarks as of press time.
