About 90 residential houses, a church, clinic and nine shops were among the properties brought to ruins in a recent attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in Debiro, Tarfa and Dakwaima villages of Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

Alhaji Mohammad Bukar, a District Head disclosed this on Monday to the Deputy Governor of the state, Umar Kadafur who paid a sympathy visit to the affected communities.

Bukar told the Deputy Governor and his entourage, the insurgents stormed the villages about 6:30 p.m.

“They operated till 10:25p.m., and burnt down 90 residential Houses, nine shops, one church, one dispensary/clinic, one tractor and carted away essential commodities as well as food items,” he added.

It was however revealed from investigations that poor telecommunications network hindered firsthand information on the invasion by the insurgents on the communities getting out.

A source revealed that local hunters made attempts to repel the attack, leading to the death of three of the insurgents while one resident sustained a gunshot wound from bullets fired by the attackers but none got injured.

Kadafur, having sympathised with the people of his communities, urged them to take the incident as an act of God and continue to pray for lasting peace.

He assured that vigilante group of hunters in the area will be well equipped and provided with monthly stipends to help defend the area.
