Following its 2-1 win over Tanzania in the opening Group C match at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria faced Tunisia in its second game, with second-round qualification in sight.

Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman were enough to earn the Super Eagles a 3-2 victory over Tunisia, earning a passage into the round of 16.

Winners in their opening matches, Nigeria and Tunisia will clash in their second Group C fixture at the Complexe Sportif de Fes in Fes on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 21:00 local time (20:00 GMT/9pm WAT).

Both sides are aiming to secure an early qualification to the knockout stage after convincing victories in their respective openers.

The history between the two sides adds an extra layer of intensity to this encounter, as detailed in a preview on the CAF website on Friday.

Their first meeting came in 1961 during qualifying for the 1962 AFCON. Nigeria won the home leg 2–1, but after walking off the pitch in the return fixture with the score at 2–2, Tunisia were awarded a 2–0 victory, progressing 3–2 on aggregate.

The two sides have also met in four FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns (1978, 1982, 1986, 2010), with Nigeria advancing on penalties in 1982 and Tunisia topping their group in 1978 to qualify for the World Cup.

At AFCON finals, Nigeria and Tunisia have faced each other six times, with Nigeria winning three matches and Tunisia claiming one victory.
