A 42-year-old businessman, Olamide Hassan, was on Friday docked in a Grade I Area Court in Lugbe, Abuja, for allegedly cheating another of N3.1 million motorcycles deal.
Hassan who resides at DutseAlhaji, Abuja, is standing trial for criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The defendant who is being arraigned on a two-count charge, pleaded not guilty.
Earlier, the prosecuting Counsel, Mr Olisa Okeke, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in January.
He said the matter was reported at the Lugbe Police Station on March 14 by Okereke Patrick, the complainant.
Okeke said that the defendant allegedly collected two motorcycles with some accessories worth N 3.1million from the complainant of Federal Housing Authority, Lugbe, on hire purchase.
He said that the defendant intentionally refused to remit the money nor returned the motorcycles, but rather absconded to an unknown destination.
Okeke told the court that during police investigation, the defendant could not give satisfactory account of himself.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Malam Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N4 million with a surety in like sum.
Kagarko said that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
He adjourned the case until April 18, for hearing. (
