The Federal Government has clarified that it has not fixed a date yet for school resumption in the country amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, made the clarification during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday.
Nwajiuba said consultations and engagements with critical stakeholders is still ongoing at the moment but was positive that the date for resumption was “around the corner”.
“About 78 privately-owned universities are insisting that they were ready for resumption while the response from government-owned universities was still ‘50-50,” he said.
“After aggregating opinions, the ministry will return to the PTF to review the situation and then go ahead to make a pronouncement.”
The Minister further called for patience from students of tertiary institutions protesting the continued closure of schools.
