The President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, has formally welcomed the President of FIBA Africa Zone 3, Mr. Samuel Ahmedu, to the newly constituted Board of the Federation for the 2026–2030 tenure.
Ahmedu, who will serve as the representative of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) on the NBBF Board, was officially welcomed in a letter dated October 22, 2026, and signed by the NBBF President, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi.
In the correspondence, Abdullahi congratulated Ahmedu on his confirmation, describing his inclusion in the Board as a significant development that would strengthen the Federation’s administrative capacity and deepen its relationship with the international basketball governing body.
The NBBF President acknowledged Ahmedu’s longstanding contributions to basketball administration, particularly his years of service within FIBA dating back to 1997, as highlighted in recent correspondence from the international body.
According to Abdullahi, Ahmedu’s extensive experience, institutional knowledge and international exposure would be invaluable to the Federation as it pursues reforms and initiatives aimed at advancing basketball development across Nigeria.
“Your wealth of experience, institutional knowledge, and international exposure will be invaluable as we work collectively to strengthen the Federation, deepen our relationship with FIBA, and advance the development of basketball in Nigeria,” Abdullahi stated.
He further expressed optimism that Ahmedu’s participation in the Board would contribute meaningfully to the Federation’s efforts to reposition Nigerian basketball and strengthen institutional collaboration at the continental and international levels.
The NBBF President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering unity, cooperation and collective responsibility among Board members in pursuit of a stronger and more progressive basketball federation.
“I look forward to a fruitful working relationship with you and all Board Members as we pursue our shared vision for a stronger, more progressive, and successful Nigerian basketball community,” he added.
Ahmedu’s confirmation comes as the newly constituted NBBF Board, under Abdullahi’s leadership, begins its 2026–2030 tenure, with expectations of strengthening basketball administration, institutional partnerships and the overall development of the sport in Nigeria.
The formal welcome further underscores the Federation’s commitment to maintaining productive relations with FIBA and leveraging international expertise to advance the growth and competitiveness of Nigerian basketball.
