Former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made a donation of N200m to fight the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic in the country.

In a statement on Twitter on Sunday, the national leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC who marked his birthday on Sunday March 29, said his usual colloquium was hindered by the virus but to mark the occasion, N100m will be made available to Lagos state government and another N100m to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control NCDC, to support the government in the fight against the deadly pandemic.

Tinubu wrote: “Today, but for COVID-19 we would, as we have done for the last twelve years, have celebrated this day with the Bola Tinubu Colloquium. This year we could not but by God’s grace we will do so again.

“The circumstances this year prevent us from gathering together to celebrate my birthday but I would still like to mark the occasion.

“That is why I have chosen today to announce that I will be making a donation of N200m to fight this deadly virus. Pursuant to this pledge, N100m will be made available to the government of Lagos State and another N100m to the NCDC to support their efforts in fighting COVID-19.”

“Together, we will overcome this terrible disease,” he concluded.

As at 09:30pm on Sunday 29th March, infected cases of coronavirus in the country stood at 111, with one death recorded, according to NCDC. Lagos remains the epicentre with 68 confirmed cases.
