The Government of Ghana has ordered the suspension of public events and closure of all schools as measures to stop the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

In an address to the West African nation on Monday, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, made the announcement stating that the ban was until further notice.

He said public gatherings, including conferences, religious services, sports matches and political rallies, have all been suspended for four weeks.

The Ghanaian president said it would start barring entry into the country from Tuesday for any non-Ghanaian citizen or resident “who, within the last 14 days, has been to a country that has recorded at least 200 cases.”

The president reached the decision following reports of a rise in the number of confirmed cases of deadly disease from two to six, with all new cases from arrivals from abroad.

Ghana now joins the numerous African countries such as Senegal, Kenya and South Africa to have taken such decision to impose travel restrictions and close schools in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic which has led to the deaths of over 5000 people globally.
