The House of Representatives has approved that June 12 be marked as Democracy Day in Nigeria, MERIDIAN SPY can exlusively report. The approval followed the adoption of a report on a bill seeking to amend the Public Holidays Act of 2004. The lawmakers considered the report at the plenary on Thursday. They also approved the amendments to three clauses in the Act, as recommended in the report. Among the clauses amended, one had May 29 deleted as Democracy Day. The deletion of May 29 was followed by the approval of June 12 as a new date for Democracy Day.

The meeting between the leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, and the Federal Government of Nigeria ended in a deadlock on Tuesday.
