Beninese music icon Angélique Kidjo is making history today as she receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming the first African musician and first Black African to receive the prestigious honour.
The five-time Grammy-winning musician will receive the 2,854th star in the Recording category during a ceremony at 7011 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. The ceremony is scheduled for August 18, 2026.
Kidjo, who was born in Benin, has built a career spanning more than four decades and has become one of Africa’s most internationally recognised musicians. Her work has helped bring African music and culture to global audiences.
She will be joined at the ceremony by Oscar-nominated actor Willem Dafoe and Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.
