Alhaji Garbai Elkanemi, the Shehu of Borno, bemoaned over the attack by Boko Haram terrorists on the convoy of Governor Babagana Zulum.
The Governor’s convoy was Wednesday attacked by suspected Boko Haram gunmen in Baga, a town in Kukawa local government of the state while he was on his way to Monguno and Baga towns to distribute food to internally displaced persons (IDPs).
Six persons were said to have been killed in the attack while 27 sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Speaking at the traditional Sallah homage paid to Governor Zulum at the Government House, Elkanemi lamented that the people of Borno now live in fear of being attacked by the insurgents.
He said something must be done urgently to secure lives and property of the people and “bring back reassurance of safety to the people of the troubled state”.
“Your Excellency, we are not happy about what happened in Baga the other time, it is very unfortunate and great pity,” said the Shehu of Borno.
“If the convoy of the whole Chief Security Officer of the state will be attacked, then wallahi nobody is safe, because he is the number one citizen of the state, he is the Chief Security Officer of the State.
“If a convoy of such highly placed person in the State will be attacked, I repeat, nobody is safe. The matter is getting worse, I urge everyone to raise up our hands to seek for Allah’s intervention.”
The paramount ruler also urged residents in the state to continue to adhere strictly to all preventive protocols advocated by health experts to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.
