The family of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has called for the suspension of his burial pending a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The family, through the singer’s uncle, appealed to the government, religious leaders, traditional rulers and influential Nigerians to support efforts to establish the cause of his death.
Speaking in an interview on Monday, the uncle said the family was devastated by the singer’s sudden demise and wanted a transparent investigation before proceeding with the burial.
He insisted that nobody should attempt to bury the late gospel minister until the investigation had been concluded, adding that the decision had been collectively agreed upon by the family.
The uncle also disclosed that the family was willing to bear the cost of keeping the singer’s remains in the mortuary for as long as necessary to ensure a proper investigation.
He further stated that the family wanted Toluwanisings to be buried at the Ibadan residence where his wife and children currently live after the investigation had been concluded.
The demand comes amid reported disagreements over the appropriate burial arrangements for the singer, whose father had earlier expressed a preference for having him buried at his house or in his family village.
Toluwanisings, whose name has also been reported as Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on October 14, 2026. Reports indicated that he slumped at his residence and was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The cause of his death has not been conclusively established in the reports reviewed, prompting renewed calls from his family for clarity.
The family’s latest position adds another dimension to the ongoing discussions surrounding the singer’s death and burial arrangements, with relatives insisting that the circumstances of his passing must be properly investigated before his final rites take place.
