The congress is expected to produce a new president who will lead the federation and oversee the administration and development of Nigerian basketball for the next four years.
The elective congress marks a significant moment for the federation, with stakeholders looking towards the emergence of new leadership to steer the affairs of the sport, strengthen its administration and advance basketball development across the country.
The presidential race candidates include Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, the Director-General and CEO, Mr. Olumide Oyedeji, Mr. Ejike Ugboaja and Mr. Igoche Mark.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) had approved October 15, 2026, for the congress, setting the stage for the election of a new leadership to oversee the federation’s next four-year tenure.
Proceedings are expected to move into the next phase following the completion of accreditation, with candidates and delegates awaiting the commencement of the electoral process.
