Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged northern Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, assuring them that the region stands to benefit more from a second term of the administration.
Shettima gave the assurance on Monday when he received a delegation of Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), a northern-based think tank campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He said the North had benefited significantly from federal appointments, infrastructure projects and government programmes, citing the Bank of Agriculture’s reported disbursement of ₦450 billion to 700,000 smallholder farmers nationwide, about 70 per cent of whom were from the region.
The Vice-President urged northern leaders and residents to unite behind Tinubu, stressing that the administration remained committed to the region’s development.
Earlier, A4A Director-General and former Jigawa State Governor, Abubakar Badaru, pledged to intensify grassroots mobilisation across wards and local government areas, while engaging religious leaders and other influential stakeholders.
The organisation’s Board of Trustees Chairman and former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, said A4A would replicate its 2023 mobilisation efforts and had concluded plans to establish a dedicated secretariat to coordinate its activities.
The meeting was attended by several former governors, including Simon Lalong, Joshua Dariye, Jolly Nyame, Yahaya Bello, Ibrahim Shehu Shema and Isa Yuguda, alongside other government officials and A4A leaders.
