Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has threatened to remove any local government council chairman who fails to deliver victory for the All Progressives Congress in his or her area in the 2027 general elections.

Nwifuru issued the warning on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, during the inauguration of the newly elected chairmen and vice-chairmen of the state’s 13 local government areas.

The governor said any chairman who failed to secure his or her council for the APC would be removed from office and replaced with a councillor.

“Any chairman who fails to win his council will be removed from office and replaced with a councillor,” Nwifuru said.

He urged the council chairmen to begin grassroots mobilisation immediately and work towards delivering a 100 per cent victory for the APC across the state in 2027.

The governor warned the chairmen against allowing opposition parties to gain ground in their respective councils, stressing that their political responsibilities began from their immediate constituencies.

Nwifuru also called on the newly inaugurated vice-chairmen to maintain a cordial working relationship with their chairmen and avoid rivalry that could undermine the administration of their councils.

He advised them to remain supportive of their chairmen, describing the vice-chairman position as a backup role that becomes necessary when the chairman is unable to function.

The governor expressed confidence in the APC’s chances in the 2027 elections and charged the council officials to contribute to the party’s success through effective grassroots engagement.
