Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said his administration’s crackdown on what he described as the misuse of public funds is the reason many civil servants do not like him.
Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja, Wike explained that funds previously allocated to activities such as foreign conferences are now being redirected to infrastructure projects, particularly road construction, to improve the lives of residents.
The minister maintained that his decision to cut what he considers unnecessary government spending has affected individuals who benefited from previous practices, making his administration unpopular within parts of the civil service.
According to Wike, prioritising capital projects over conference expenses has enabled the FCT Administration to channel more resources into developmental projects across the nation’s capital.
He stressed that his focus remains on delivering visible infrastructure rather than seeking approval from civil servants, insisting that public resources should be used for projects that directly benefit residents.
Wike’s remarks come amid continued discussions on government expenditure, fiscal discipline and the balance between recurrent spending and capital investment in the Federal Capital Territory.
