Why Governor Abba’s Defection Painful to Kwankwasiyya – Kwankwaso
Former Kano State governor and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed deep sadness over the decision of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor and his political associates were recently received into the ruling party, marking a significant shift in Kano’s political landscape.
In a video circulated on social media, Kwankwaso said he found it difficult to understand why a government formed through what he described as immense sacrifice under the Kwankwasiyya movement was “suddenly moved” into what he referred to as “Gandujiyya,” a political bloc associated with former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“This government was formed with a lot of sacrifice, but without any clear reason that we know, it was taken away from our Kwankwasiyya structure and moved elsewhere,” he lamented.
Leadership newspaper reports that Kwankwaso described the development as painful and disappointing, adding that only God knows the real motives behind the sudden political shift.
He noted that the administration was birthed through the ideology and structure of Kwankwasiyya and suggested that the realignment raises serious political and moral questions.
Despite his disappointment, the former governor expressed hope that the development would ultimately work out positively for his supporters and the people of Kano State.
Concluding his remarks, Kwankwaso extended goodwill to all Kwankwasiyya loyalists across the state and beyond.
He assured that the movement remains open and accommodating, stressing that supporters and government officials who followed Governor Yusuf into the APC still have an open door should they choose to return.
He emphasized that Kwankwasiyya was built on loyalty, sacrifice and shared ideals, maintaining that reconciliation and unity remain possible for those willing to realign with the movement.
