Activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore has criticized a Navy officer for allegedly prioritizing personal or political interests over national security, drawing a parallel to a similar incident involving Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in the past.
In a post on his X handle, Sowore highlighted that while the military’s core duty is to safeguard Nigeria’s borders, resources are sometimes diverted to protect private interests, reportedly under “orders.” He described such actions as emblematic of a broader culture among officials who serve a privileged few rather than the nation at large.
Sowore specifically recalled Governor Wike’s alleged intervention during an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) operation, where Wike reportedly obstructed the arrest of a judge friend accused of corruption. “What a country!” Sowore wrote, underlining his frustration with the persistence of self-interest in public service.
The activist’s post has reignited debate over accountability and the proper role of security agencies in Nigeria, raising questions about the limits of political influence over law enforcement and military operations
