Abia North Senate representatives, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has pledged to ensure the sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.

Senator Kalu stated this on Friday in commemoration of the June 12 Democracy Day celebration in the country.

“As we commemorate and celebrate the remembrance of Moshood Kashimawo Abiola and other heroes of our hard-fought democracy, I want to assure all Nigerians that I would do my best to ensure its sustenance,” he tweeted.

The former Abia governor, who was previously convicted for N7.1 billion fraud, attended his first plenary session earlier this week, after his release from the Kuje prison.

He had filed an application asking the court to grant his release, following the nullification of the conviction of his co-defendant, Jones Udeogu by the supreme court, on the grounds that the trial judge gave the judgment without jurisdiction.

His prayer was granted by Justice Mohammed Liman of the Lagos Federal High Court and was released from the Kuje prison.

MERIDIAN SPY reported Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said the Senate Chief Whip would soon be charged to court again over his fraud allegation.

The Head, Legal Department of the EFCC, Kabir Latona disclosed, during a press briefing, that the financial prosecuting agency was merely waiting for the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to assign Kalu’s case file to a judge for the case to start.
