The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu would soon be charged to court over allegation of N7.1 billion fraud.

Senator Kalu had filed an application asking the court to grant his release, following the nullification of the conviction of his co-defendant, Jones Udeogu by the supreme court, on the grounds that the trial judge gave the judgment without jurisdiction.

His prayer was granted by Justice Mohammed Liman of the Lagos Federal High Court and was released from the Kuje prison.

However, the Head, Legal Department of the EFCC, Kabir Latona disclosed, during a press briefing, that the financial prosecuting agency will soon resume the charge against the Abia North Senate Representative.

Latona said the EFCC was merely waiting for the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court to assign Kalu’s case file to a judge for the case to start.

MERIDIAN SPY reported Tuesday, the Senate Chief Whip attended his first plenary session at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly after his release from prison.

He however did not resume his duty as Chief Whip. Sabi Abdullahi, deputy chief whip, still acted in his stead.
