The Presidency has said President Bola Tinubu can continue to discharge his constitutional responsibilities from anywhere in the world, amid questions over his prolonged absence from Nigeria.
Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the clarification in a post on X on Monday while responding to concerns from opposition figures about who is currently in charge of the country as Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima remain outside Nigeria.
Bwala argued that the President’s constitutional powers are not restricted by his physical location, noting that Tinubu remains Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and can issue directives, delegate responsibilities and administer government from abroad.
The statement followed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s question over whether Tinubu had transmitted a written declaration to the National Assembly in accordance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution before leaving the country.
Meanwhile, the State House announced on Monday that Tinubu had extended his working vacation in Europe by a few days and was expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend.
