Former Edo State Governor and Senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has expressed support for security operatives to shoot armed criminals on sight, arguing that decisive action is necessary to tackle rising insecurity across the country.

Oshiomhole said individuals carrying weapons while engaging in criminal activities pose an immediate threat to public safety and should be confronted with appropriate force by law enforcement agencies. According to him, stronger security measures are needed to curb kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

He maintained that security personnel must be adequately empowered and protected while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities, stressing that restoring public confidence in the nation’s security architecture requires firm action against armed criminals.

His comments have sparked public debate, with supporters describing the proposal as a necessary response to worsening insecurity, while critics have raised concerns about human rights and the need for security agencies to operate within the bounds of the law.
