A legislative aspirant under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr Manasseh Istifanus, has expressed confidence in the growing acceptance of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying the will of the people would outweigh incumbency advantages.
Istifanus bore his intention in an interview on Tuesday with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna.
The aspirant who is vying for membership of Kaduna State House of Assembly for Zangon Kataf Constituency said his confidence stemmed from the level of acceptance and support he enjoys across his constituency.
“I don’t see the party in government as an obstacle for me to achieve my goals because I am motivated by the love and acceptance I have within my constituency,” he said.
According to him, politics should go beyond sharing money or making unrealistic promises, stressing that leadership should serve as a bridge for development and opportunities.
“If elected, I want to be a bridge that links my constituency with the rest of the world in terms of development,” he said.
The aspirant explained that he planned to partner with donor agencies and non-governmental organisations to attract development projects and investments to the constituency.
He also disclosed plans to establish a central development hub within the constituency that would accommodate markets, healthcare facilities, hotels and business activities.
“I want to make the constituency visible on the world map. We need a functional market, a good hospital and businesses that will support economic activities in the area,” he added.
On education, the aspirant said he intended to establish a support fund aimed at assisting children from less privileged families to access quality education.
“Our people are very intelligent, but many children in the villages are wasting away because they lack opportunities.
“I want to create a revolving educational support fund through contributions from stakeholders and well-meaning individuals,” Istifanus said.
Speaking on the state of the ADC, the aspirant dismissed concerns over internal crises within the party, insisting that the challenges were politically motivated because of the growing popularity of the party.
“When people throw stones at a mango tree, it is because there are ripe fruits on it. The ADC is being targeted because people know the party has come to stay,” he said.
He alleged that some political actors were using state institutions and court processes to frustrate the party but expressed confidence that such cases would eventually fade away.
The aspirant maintained that the ADC remained united at the grassroots and prepared for both the party primaries and the 2027 general elections
